Discover the transformative power of breath work, with both philosophical and practical dimensions. Focusing primarily on the yoga practice of pranayama, you will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the healing power of yogic breath work. This course models Cal Poly Humboldt’s “learn by doing” philosophy -- you will be guided through five different traditional pranayamas, allowing you to acquire a foundation for your own breath work practice.

Dr. Joshua Frye
Dr. Joshua Frye is a professor of communication at Cal Poly Humboldt with over 25 years of professional experience. Areas of expertise include strategic communication, persuasion and influence, leadership development, and communication for sustainable social change.
He has been interviewed and featured in numerous media outlets and podcasts and has published over 30 articles, books, book chapters, and encyclopedia entries, and has been recognized for numerous top papers at national conferences.
His research has been cited by experts in a variety of fields from universities worldwide. He has been awarded internal and external grants for field research and collaborative endeavors with community stakeholders.
Dr. Frye has taught, conducted research, volunteered, and studied in over 35 countries in Asia, Latin America, the South Pacific, and Europe. His teaching engagements have occurred at Purdue University, Shanxi University (China), Yale University, Dartmouth College, the State University of New York, and the California State University system, among others.
Fun fact: He has been awarded tenure twice, in the two largest public university systems in the U.S. on both the east and west coast.
